A few months ago I received a message from one of my old classmates. He asked me about what I was doing and how life is going on.
I answered his queries and later asked him about the same. He mentioned that he is working in an MNC and soon looking forward to starting his own business. He told me to be in touch and I agreed.
After a few days, I saw his pictures on social media of him on the airport lounge, traveling to different places like Singapore, Thailand, etc, and nicely dressed in fancy clothes. I immediately smelled something fishy.
As expected, after a few days he messaged me and mentioned that he started his business which he mentioned was a good opportunity.
When I asked what the business was all about and how it works he mentioned that I would need to visit his office where an executive would explain everything.
I politely refused his request saying that since I am already working with a company at a good position as a developer I won't be able to join him.
To which he replied: “Bro, you don’t need to leave your job, you can make 5 crores a year with this business working part-time” and I was like LOL!
I replied:
“Making 5 crores a year with a business it possible but making 5 crores a year working part-time? sounds sketchy to me”.
After a few days, I got a phone call from him, it was a number from Singapore. He told me that I am about to give them your name as a potential member and if I get selected I would be rich.
Upon hearing these words I was really pissed, I told him not to drag me into such things and I would report him if he does so. I know it was kind of impolite to use such words but I had no other option.
My guess is he was working for some MLM which lured people into making quick money.
There are multiple scams out there in different names which lure youngsters promising them a good career and promising them false dreams.
