Reports of credit card fraud are increasing in Kolkata, particularly affecting women in areas such as New Alipore, Netaji Nagar, and Ballygunge. Fraudsters are exploiting the pretext of Durga Puja "packages and offers" to target victims. In a recent case, a woman from New Alipore lost Rs 68,000 after sharing her credit card details with a caller promising a limit increase. Prompt intervention by the cybercrime team resulted in the halting of the transaction and a full refund to the victim.
Other incidents involve unauthorized credit card issuance and financial losses. City and state police are warning the public to verify websites, avoid sharing details with unknown callers, and exercise caution online due to the increasing threat of credit card fraud.
